Ah, good old Vitamin C. I’m pretty sure I knew how great it was ever since I was a kid drinking all of the Sunny D I could get my hands on (yes, I know it isn’t real orange juice, but tell that to me 5 year old self). Vitamin C being a skincare-must ingredient is no surprise and its benefits for the skin are unmatched, helping with anything from rough texture to acne scarring. So we’re all in agreement to how amazing Vitamin C is, but did you know there are different kinds in our skin care products and that one is arguably the best?
Vitamin C in its Best Form
The best form of my VItamin C is in Sunny D! Yeah right, I wish. Let me introduce to you the real MVP Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate. The other Vitamin C in skin care is L-ascorbic acid which might be cheaper, but inferior in lots of ways. Good ol’ Mr. THDA (yup that’s what I’m going to call it instead), a chemically modified version of Vitamin C is 50 times more potent, making it the best form of Vitamin C for several reasons.
Gentler– THDA isn’t an acid like L-ascorbic acid, meaning the ingredient is much gentler than its other type. With THDA, you won’t get the burning or skin irritation you might get if you used a product with L-ascorbic acid.
Penetrates Deeper– Don’t worry, I’ll save you from the jokes running through my gutter head with this one. THDA is an oil soluble which means our lipid-rich skin recognizes the ingredient and allows it to penetrate deeper in the skin than L-ascorbic acid, providing way better skin-loving results.
Doesn’t Degrade– L-ascorbic acid is more unstable than Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate so when it is introduced to light and air, it begins to degrade and then oxidize (turn orange and brown) and the ingredients lose their potency. THDA on the other hand, won’t destabilize, lasting way longer.
Better Anti-Aging Properties– Due to, pretty much all of the factors above, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate has better anti-aging properties than its counterpart. Because it penetrates deeper, it stimulates more of our favorite, collagen. With more collagen, we get all of the good good: plump, firm, smooth, youthful looking skin.
Benefits of Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate
If the above wasn’t enough to illustrate the benefits of Mr. THDA, we’ll give you more reasons to love it! Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate is an antioxidant so its benefits are amazing and extensive. THDA has been known to:
Protects Against Free Radicals– One of the biggest causes of premature aging is UVA and UVB light. Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate protects the skin against environmental pollution and reduces damage caused by UVA and UVB.
Improves Tone and Texture– THDA can improve skin tone and brightness. It can help even out complexion and reduce age spots and hyperpigmentation. Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate also improves the texture of skin and minimizes redness from inflammation and scarring.
Helps with Anti-Aging– With its penetrative powers, THBA helps out with collagen production improving the skin’s elasticity and firmness. It also helps eliminate the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
